A Magneto coil is an electrical conductor, such as a coil of wire, a helix or a helix. Electromagnetic coils are used in electrical engineering, in applications where currents interact with magnetic fields, in applications such as motors, generators, inductors, electromagnets, transformers, and sensor coils. Electric current is passed through the wires of the Magneto coil to generate a magnetic field, or conversely, an EMF (voltage) is generated in the conductor by an external time-varying magnetic field inside the Magneto coil.
Due to Ampere's law, current flowing through any conductor will create a circular magnetic field around the conductor. The advantage of using the Magneto coil shape is that it increases the strength of the magnetic field produced by a given current. The magnetic fields created by the separate wire turns all pass through the center of the coil and add (superimpose) at its center to create a strong magnetic field. The more turns of wire, the stronger the magnetic field produced. Instead, a changing external magnetic flux induces a voltage in a conductor, such as a wire, due to Faraday's law of induction. The induced voltage can be increased by winding the wire into a Magneto coil because the magnetic field lines intersect the circuit many times.
The direction of the magnetic field generated by the Magneto coil can be determined by the right-hand grip rule. If the fingers of the right hand are wrapped around the core of the coil in the normal direction of current flow through the wire, the thumb will point in the direction the magnetic field lines pass through the coil. The end of the core from which the magnetic field lines emerge is defined as the North Pole.
There are many different types of Magneto coils used in electrical and electronic equipment.
